Introduction Water isotopes — WISO — are powerful tracers of water movement through the water cycle, from precipitation to surface water, soil water, groundwater and drinking water. They help identify water sources, flow pathways and exchanges between hydrological compartments. In sustainable agriculture, WISO can support better understanding of water sources, water use and movement within agricultural systems. Methodologies This Use Case will develop a spatially resolved relational database and an interactive data platform for water isotope data. It builds on SLONIP (https://slonip.ijs.si/), a web-based research platform containing precipitation isotope data from Slovenia collected through Jožef Stefan Institute research since 1981. The upgraded database will include isotope information from precipitation, snow, snow melt, surface water, soil water, groundwater and tap water. It will follow FAIR data concepts and support data storage, management, queries and analysis. Output The main output will be the WIDA database management system, including the database, supporting software and a report on the architecture and functional capabilities of the system. The platform will integrate historic isotope data from national and regional databases and provide concrete functionalities for managing and analysing WISO data. Impact The database will improve access to long-term WISO data and support sustainable agriculture, water resource management and climate adaptation. It can help determine the origin of water used by plants, distinguish precipitation from irrigation water, improve irrigation strategies, assess infiltration and support soil management. It can also contribute to verifying the geographical origin of agricultural products and preventing food fraud. What I can offer Expertise in water isotope data, hydrological interpretation, FAIR data implementation and database development, building on the experience of SLONIP and long-term JSI isotope research. What I need Support for database architecture, metadata harmonization, data standardization, interoperability, data governance and integration of national and regional isotope datasets, together with collaboration from researchers, farmers, policymakers and other users.
