Short summary of your UC This use case explores how individual tracking of fattening pigs from birth to slaughter using RFID technology can improve technical performance, financial results, and labour efficiency on Belgian pig farms. The overall goal of this project is better management of the pig farm by identifying opportunities through traceability from birth to slaughter. Introduction Although individual pig monitoring is technically feasible, it is not yet implemented in the Belgian pig sector. Farmers currently select breeding animals based on fertility and farrowing-house parameters but lack insight into the growth, health, and quality of their offspring. PigID addresses that gap by providing an overview and training on available products and testing the technical solutions together with pig farmers. In addition, we determine the added value of animal data for farm management itself and for the wider sector. Methodologies PigID collects individual animal data from participating farms and links information from different FMIS systems through data mapping. We analyse technical, financial, organisational, and social impact, and develop internal and external benchmarking systems. Commercial monitoring solutions are tested in practice, and farmers receive training and an overview of available technologies. Output • Individual pig data from 24 farms • First dashboards for performance monitoring • A published comparison tool for commercial individual-monitoring systems including a compatibility selection • New KPIs and benchmarking frameworks within and between farms Impact PigID strengthens data-driven management by enabling farmers to follow growth, health, medication use, and management effects at individual level. This leads to improved technical results, more efficient organisation, and greater transparency and innovation across the sector. What I can offer The use case offers expertise in analysing and interpreting individual animal data using RFID, developing dashboards and translating insights into practical farm improvements, alongside transferable tools and cost- benefit analyses that support pig farmers and technology providers across Europe and contribute to EU-wide traceability What I need Reliable farm data, strong collaboration with farmers and technology providers, and input on meaningful KPIs, alongside support to increase EU-wide visibility, enable knowledge exchange, and ensure continued funding and innovation beyond the project duration.
